“No injuries have been reported, but the 2.45 am blast left a huge hole and a powdery substance. The substance has been collected for analysis. This will help us in our investigations to find out whether it was a bomb’,” said Mkadam.
He informed reporters that an eyewitness, a man guarding shops at Darajani, claimed that unidentified people in a Toyota pick-up car threw something that looked like a bomb, which landed on soft drinks at ‘Sahara Store shops.’
The guard rushed and picked up the bomb and threw it. The device landed on Darajani Road, where it exploded leaving a huge hole. Smoke spiraled after the explosion.
“We need volunteers to help us find the criminals who are trying to disrupt our peace. The informers should provide us with information that will lead to the arrest of these outlaws,” said Mkadam as he called for calm, assuring people that security officers are on alert.
Some people around Zanzibar Stone Town explained that they were shocked by abnormal ‘bomb’ sound, asking the government to act and stop the emerging insecurity in the Islands.
Meanwhile, twelve days since an unidentified youth threw acid at a Roman Catholic Priest, Joseph Anselm Mwangamba, the police say the search for the suspected criminals continues, with the hope of finding and punishing them.
